Under this theme, speakers and participants from around the globe will shape the discussions and interactive sessions on current challenges and trends, particularly three policy areas:

Reshaping Alliances for Peace and Security: What is the role for Europe?
Promoting Peace through Climate Justice: How can environmental peacebuilding address injustices and conflicts to promote a just transition?
Feminist Development and Foreign Policy: How can dilemmas in power shifts be addressed?

Upscaling peace-positive climate action and climate-informed peacebuilding: lessons learned and ways forward

This 90-minute-roundtable discussion aims at encouraging reflection and knowledge exchange on programming and financing peace-positive climate action/climate-informed peacebuilding, with a view to feed into efforts to implement Germany’s Strategy on Climate Foreign Policy in a whole-of-government-approach, as well as support the mainstreaming of climate- and conflict-sensitive approaches into other policy dimensions. To do so, it will bring together policy-makers from different German ministries, as well as practitioners and experts from German-based NGOs, think tank and academia that have expertise working on and implementing integrated climate-peace projects and programmes in various contexts. Current experiences at designing and implementing integrated climate-peacebuilding projects and programmes in the context of the Weathering Risk Initiative in Iraq and Haiti will be presented to kick-start the discussion.

About the FriEnt Peacebuilding Forum

The FriEnt Peacebuilding Forum 2024 will welcome more than 100 local, national, and global state and civil society actors as well as policymakers. Amongst them will be national and international government institutions, parliamentarians, civil society organisations as well as international partner networks of the FriEnt member organisations. Together, we want to reaffirm the peacebuilding communities’ claim to influence policy debates and strengthen peacebuilding narratives. The conference will provide networking opportunities in an inclusive environment that brings together peacebuilders from state actors and civil society from different parts of the world.

The Working Group on Peace and Development (FriEnt) is an association of governmental organisations, church development agencies, civil society networks, and political foundations.
